Ever think about how Jesus managed his time?
Most of us think about time management as if it’s something we only struggle with. And we talk to God like He didn’t encounter the same thing.
Think about with me:
I think Jesus had the most high-pressure schedule in the universe of all time.
He only had a 3.5 year project. And in that time span, he had to:
Start a Kingdom movement
Teach and preach
Raise up 12 disciples that would carry on the work after Him
And obviously…save the world 🙂
Talk about a time crunch!
Yet as I read the Gospels, I noticed that Jesus was not haphazard in his approach to time. Actually, I believe Jesus was extremely intentional with His time.
What can we glean from the record of Jesus regarding His time management?
Here are my quick observations:
Observation 1: He Went at His Own Pace
He never felt rushed. He always seemed to be exactly where he was supposed to be.
Observation 2: He Blocked Off Time for What Was Important
He always, without fail, would wake up for prayer. This was regardless of what ministry was involved.
Observation 3: He Was Inconveniently Unavailable
When people looked for Him, He was nowhere to be found!
After feeding 5000 people were looking for him but he wasn’t there! He was in his Father’s presence.
Too many of us (me included!) are at the every beck and call of people’s needs. Not Jesus.
Observation 4: He Always Made Time for the One
Despite his busy schedule, he always seemed to make time for the one.
The adulterous woman,
The woman who was sick for 12 years,
The daughter that needed to be raised from the dead,
And more…
No ministry or task was too important to stop for the one.
Observation 5: Time Worked Differently for Him
People rushed Him when He wanted to go slow. He seemed to see time altogether differently.
Perhaps we need to consider realigning our sense of time around Him versus our own sense?
Conclusion
Those are my observations about how Jesus managed His time.
What do you observe?
How can we learn in our own lives?
You were made for greatness, Phil
