Encouragement is one of the most important tools in your arsenal as a spiritual leader.
Ephesians 4 says to let only encouragement come from your mouth. People are strengthened when we speak courage to them.
There’s an opportunity to be a power encourager.
What is a power encourager?
A power encourager strengthens the people of God mightily by doing it in volume. They don’t do it once per week. No, they do it multiple times a day. The amount of people strengthened through them is significant.
But how do you do it?
I want to tell you a dead easy way to be a powerful encourager, one that really builds up people and the people of God. People around you are going to be strengthened.
Here’s an easy way:
Affirm the simple things that people do.
People think that encouragement has to look like some grand thing or calling out something deep (which there will be times for). But the easiest and most powerful way I’ve found to encourage people is simply to affirm the simple things they do.
Did someone write a good email? Good job writing that.
Is someone just doing their job? Hey, I saw you there. Great job.
Is someone cleaning the dishes? Hey, you did a good job cleaning the dishes.
It’s so powerful because people feel seen. Most people walk around life feeling like no one pays attention to the little things they do.
But the reality is quite the opposite! Our Father in heaven is watching our every move with pride and joy in his heart. His thoughts for us outnumber the sands on the sea! (Psalm 139)
So if you want to be a powerful encourager, just look around and encourage people in the simple things they do. You won’t believe people’s reactions when you do it.
You were made for greatness.
Phil
Power doesn't come from encouraging in a big way. It's in the little, daily, collective habits!
