Make this Your Goal for 2023

Man, that was fast!

How are you thinking about 2023? As we turn another year, undoubtedly, you’re going to hear people’s ambitious plans of what they wanna crush this year. Lose 20lbs, make X amount of money,

Can I encourage you with something that God encouraged me with?

I was thinking ahead to 2023 and the Holy Spirit said something really profound to me:

Phil, make loving me more your number one goal for 2023.

It makes so much sense! It’s based on aligning my year goals with my life goals. And life goals should align with the most significant thing that God thinks about. The greatest thing God thinks about is loving him with all of our hearts, minds, and souls.

I want a bigger heart for him. I want a more tender heart. I want a heart that is more responsive and in awe of him. I want that heart to love others more.

Make loving God more your number goal

I am sure as you’re looking ahead to 2023, you’ll have other “goals”. I’m not saying those are bad. Keep your weight loss goals, ministry goals, money goals, whatever. Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, but give to give to God what belongs to God – our whole lives.

I find that if I make loving God my number one goal, every other goal finds its home. For example, then losing weight isn’t just about losing weight; it is about loving God by loving my body. If it’s making X amount of money, it’s about loving God with my finances.

If you make loving God your number goal, every other ambition you have in 2023 falls in its rightful place.

You were made for greatness,
Phil

Funny how this echoes a conversation I was having with Eric yesterday- focus on God, His desires, His kingdom, and everything else will not just fall into place, but make perfect sense.
