Most people think mentoring looks like grabbing coffee, sitting across from someone, and having a deep conversation.
But if we look at Jesus, mentoring wasn’t a coffee shop chat.
It was action.
“Follow me.”
That’s what He said. Not “sit with me,” but “come with me.”
Mentoring is not about bringing people to where you are. It’s about bringing them to where you’re going.
That’s why I don’t just do sit-down meetings. Instead, I try to bring people along with me—
When I’m recording a podcast.
When I’m ministering to someone.
When I’m leading a small group.
When I’m out and about running errands.
And I’ve found this kind of mentoring to be so much richer.
Why?
1. It’s fun. There’s energy when you’re doing something together.
2. It’s real. You have actual moments to discuss, not just theories.
3. It’s revealing. How you do one thing is how you do everything.
Even something as simple as playing basketball with someone teaches more than words ever could.
Because mentoring isn’t just about what you say. It’s about what you live.
That’s what Jesus showed us. He didn’t just teach. He walked. And He called people to walk with Him.
How about you?
Who can you invite to follow—not just your words, but your way of life?
You were made for goodness,
Phil
I like this a lot.
Just like someone can't read every book on plumbing and know how to be a plumber - it must be done by doing....
Just like faith with full knowledge and without works, means nothing...
It must be done in motion! Thanks, Phil!
